Research Overview
GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) is the native incretin hormone produced by L-cells in the intestine in response to food intake. It stimulates insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, slows gastric emptying, and promotes satiety through central nervous system signaling. The native peptide has a very short half-life of approximately 2 minutes due to rapid degradation by DPP-4, which is why modified versions like Semaglutide were developed. Researchers use native GLP-1 to study baseline incretin physiology and to understand the fundamental biology that longer-acting analogs are designed to enhance.
