Research Overview
LL-37 is the only cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide found in humans. It is a 37 amino acid peptide released from its precursor hCAP-18 by proteinase 3. Beyond its direct antimicrobial activity against bacteria, viruses, and fungi, LL-37 functions as a signaling molecule that modulates inflammation, wound healing, and immune cell recruitment. It interacts with formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2), P2X7 receptor, and EGFR, creating a complex signaling network.
