Research Overview
PNC27 is a synthetic peptide that contains a segment from the p53 tumor suppressor protein fused to a cell-penetrating sequence. It selectively targets cells that express HDM2 (human double minute 2, also known as MDM2) on their surface, a feature found predominantly in transformed cells but not in normal cells. Upon binding surface HDM2, PNC27 induces rapid membrane lysis and cell death specifically in cancer cells while leaving healthy cells intact. This selectivity makes it a valuable research tool in cancer biology, particularly for studying the role of surface-expressed HDM2 in tumor vulnerability.
