Research Overview
MOTS-c is a 16 amino acid peptide encoded by the mitochondrial genome, making it one of the few known mitochondrial-derived peptides with signaling function. It targets the folate cycle and de novo purine biosynthesis pathway, activating AMPK and improving metabolic function. Research has shown that MOTS-c levels decline with age and are upregulated by exercise, suggesting it plays a role in exercise-mediated metabolic benefits. Studies in aged mice have shown that MOTS-c treatment can improve physical capacity and metabolic markers, making it a compound of significant interest in both exercise science and aging research.
