Research Overview
MOTS-c is a 16 amino acid peptide encoded by the mitochondrial genome, making it one of the few known mitochondrial-derived peptides with signaling function. It targets the folate cycle and de novo purine biosynthesis pathway, activating AMPK and improving metabolic function. Research has shown that MOTS-c levels decline with age and are upregulated by exercise, suggesting it plays a role in exercise-mediated metabolic benefits.
